Little friends is an installation/performance piece for Battersea Art Centre. I was invited to take part in a research and development residency specifically inspired by the heritage of the building. The work had to engage with an audience age group (18 months – 3 years) that Battersea Art Centre had not engaged with before. Out of the residency I, along with other artists and theatre companies, devised a show called ‘Town Hall Cherubs’.
Fallen from his place in the sky, a sleepy cherub needs your help to find his way home….
Follow his garland through Battersea Arts Centre’s beautiful old rooms and discover what makes this old Town Hall so magical in a tender journey with surprises along the way. With hidden rooms to explore and play in, children are encouraged to take part. Lively adventurers don’t have to sit still!
The creation of Little Friends was inspired by the architecture of Battersea Art Centre’s building, specifically the mosaics, which run round the whole building. Working as an inflatable company I designed 30 ‘Little Friends’ that were custom made as an installation placed inside the performance space of ‘Town Hall Cherubs’.
